#16 MY SURVIVAL KIT FOR STAYING POLISHED IN SUMMER
Okay, okay, London doesn't necessarily call for a survival kit related to the theme, but if you use public transport and/or are travelling to enjoy the summer holidays, take note of these tips that will be very useful.
I've travelled to Spain twice in the last few weeks and it's been a very pleasant but hot summer there! As a result, I've developed a few techniques for staying well-dressed and polished while enjoying the days of leisure or moments on public transport, such as the metro and bus.
Fortunately, there is air-conditioning on public transport there (London needs to get on board), but it's not always enough to beat the heat.
It's very important for me to feel polished. You know that tidy look with everything in place, including make-up and hairstyle? That's my style most of the time.
Check out my tips below. I hope they'll be useful for you when dealing with public transport when you go to work in London or enjoy the heat in Mediterranean or tropical cities and countries.
Don't underestimate the power of a mini fan.
Practical to fit in your bag, powerful to save your make-up or shirt from sweat.
I bought a mini fan on Amazon and I always carry it in my bag to use when I feel the temperature might go or already is high.
I use it for a few minutes on my face and also on my neck and bust. The gentle jet of air is enough to keep everything in place.
To keep your hair in place, you have a few options:
My hair has a huge impact on my self-esteem. If it doesn't look good, I don't feel confident in certain situations, even something as simple as going to a restaurant.
So I've developed a few tactics to keep it in good shape. As a curly woman, frizz is part of my reality, but it can be tamed:
Wear a polished bun with your hair pulled back tightly for a more classic look,
A more relaxed, flowing bun, which also goes with more casual, less conservative looks,
I love the idea of wearing a scarf like the Italians do. Obviously, in this case, the idea doesn't work in a formal work environment, but if you're travelling or working in the hospitality industry, for example, you could go for this style.
Hats: I wore them a lot to protect myself from the sun and also to protect the colour of my hair, which has highlights and could turn yellowish if exposed to the sun for too long. As well as protecting you, hats are a great way to show off your style.
As little makeup as possible
I have combination skin, my forehead and nose tend to shine a lot in the heat, so the less make-up I wear, the better my skin looks.
Skin care is also very important:
Revitalising moisturiser + mattifying foundation + sunscreen.
I've been using Caudalie's Vinoperfect range for a few years now, and I took the moisturiser with me because it's light and doesn't get trapped in the pores.
I also used a primer that I'm obsessed with: Dior Forever Velvet Primer. I've never used a primer like this before! It's very versatile, I can use it without make-up on top and my skin looks healthy and even, and of course you can use it with foundation from the same Dior range. This primer keeps the skin matte for many hours, I'd say at least 10 hours straight, so it's a breath of freshness and sophistication to deal with the heat of the streets and public transport.
Protected from the negative effects of the sun
Caudalie recently launched a sunscreen in stick format and I bought it to test on my trip. It was my ally for touching up sun protection during the day in a practical way, without needing to spread it on my hands or smudge my make-up.
The stick was also perfect for protecting the extremities of the body, such as the ears, nose and hands. What's more, because of its small packaging, it fit effortlessly into my handbag and will now be part of my life here in London.
But I used a real sun protection pack, as I went to the beach a lot and didn't want to come back too tanned or sunburnt.
I used the body sunscreen from the same line as the Caudalie stick and the La Roche facial sunscreen for oily skin.
Clothes made from quality fabric and natural fibre
We didn't have to invent the wheel here. The basics of investing in quality fabrics with good finishes, tailored cuts and natural fibres saved my days.
The garment I enjoyed the most was a light linen mini dress by Sandro Paris. Both the fabric and the finishing have an incredible quality that made me feel happy when I put it on. It was also great for walking around the Sagrada Familia on a hot day.

Leather trainers in a neutral colour
Open-toes sandals can be a good option, but it's not pleasant to take the metro or walk around the city with dust on your skin, so this time I opted for trainers instead of sandals.
I chose a white leather Vert (vegan and technological according to the brand). Despite being white, they are very practical to clean and I put an orthopaedic insole in them, which was great for avoiding leg pain at night caused by circulation problems.
In addition to these functional benefits, leather trainers, whether white, grey or black, add a sense of sophistication and polish to a look, and as my personal style also has a basic essence, everything has become a harmonious ensemble.

It may not be a statement of style, but the click is a step in the fashion direction:
✨I'm in love with this headboard that a mum made for her daughter. I like the idea of giving old furniture new life and, above all, new meanings.
