#08 Paris Haute Couture, Capsule Wardobre and some tips.
Hello, dear readers. It seems like January is over forty-five days long and never ends. Do you agree?
MY THOUGHTS ON PARIS HAUTE COUTURE
I still haven't finished digesting Paris Haute Couture Week, especially the Maison Margiela shows, with John Galliano and Jean Paul Gaultier in partnership with Simone Rocha, who designed a haute couture collection for the first time.
Many people didn't like the Maison Margiela show, which delivered much more than fashion. What we saw was pure art and I loved it! Do you know why? Because the catwalk, especially Haute Couture, is where designers have the freedom to express their repertoires and cultural narratives that go beyond ready-to-wear.
We witnessed John Galliano conjure a world of characters and couture that was a more staggering, shockingly 100% Galliano experience than fashion has enjoyed for years.
Theatre, emotion, rebellion and romantic-historical fantasies have always fuelled Galliano's creativity. And the collection we saw with M. Margiela began with inspiration from Brassai's portraits from the 1920s and 1930s of the nocturnal underworld of the clubs and streets of Paris.
The setting showed lovers, dancers and gangsters prowling the banks of the Seine in Paris. All very theatrical and sure to remain in my memory for decades as an inspiration for creative freedom.
Jean Paul Gaultier, in my humble opinion, presented one of his most beautiful collections since he retired and started inviting partner designers to sign his collections. By the way, it was also one of the best collections presented at Paris Haute Couture Week. Simone Rocha, who is Irish and has her brand based in London, managed in a detailed and impeccable way to combine her ultra-feminine DNA with Gautier's sexy universe in such a way that you can see the designers' style codes, but without it seeming forced or heavy-handed.
Take note, what Simone and Gautier presented is what is already in fashion and should remain so: 3D embroidery, transparency, tulle, moving layers, pastel colours and lots of bows.
ONE PIECE IN YOUR CAPSULE WARDROBE TO HAVE AND WEAR OFTEN
STATEMENT COAT:
What we wear most outside in London's autumn and winter are coats. That's why, on many occasions, our look of the day can be overshadowed by the closed structure that a coat needs to keep us warm and protected from the wind.
The easiest way to add fashion information to your look is by choosing a coat, since it's the garment that will appear on you the most, and often.
It's important that you have at least one basic, classic model in your wardrobe that is of excellent quality in terms of modelling and fabric. After that, you can include a statement jacket in your capsule, that key piece that makes your style more visually interesting.
The ideal statement jacket will depend on your personality, lifestyle and inspirations. I'll leave you with a few cool references to inspire you to break away from "more of the same":
Tôteme / Gucci / Muuba / Jakke / Free People.
I've curated this list via the Harvey Nichols ecommerce site. You can make your purchase with a 30% discount on purchases over GBP 350 and that's not advertising. Discount only valid through the link.
It may not be a statement of style, but the click is a step in the fashion direction:
✨ A series on the history of Cristóbal Balenciaga to learn about the beginnings of Balenciaga. On Disney Plus
✨ The Chanel Manifesto exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum has been extended until March. I got my ticket! Uhul. Ticket at here.
✨ I'm in love with the colour palette in this home office.
✨Make it easy to look chic. Inspiration.
✨ I visited this café recently and loved the experience. Delicious food, a pleasant space and tropical smoothies.
